Hindus in Bangladesh Demonstrate Against Violence- Muhammad Yunus Reacts

Following Sheikh Hasina’s resignation as prime minister and her flight to India, thousands of Hindus in Bangladesh have taken to the streets in protest against the continued attacks on their community.
Thousands of people attended the big marches on Saturday in Chittagong, the country’s second-largest city, and Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh.

Since the fall of the Hasina-led administration on August 5, members of minority communities in violence-plagued Bangladesh have experienced over 205 cases of attacks across 52 districts.It is thought that attacks on the homes and businesses of hundreds of Hindus resulted in injuries.

At least two Hindu figures connected to Ms. Hasina’s Awami League party have been slain in the rioting, and other Hindu temples have also been vandalized.In an attempt to escape the bloodshed, thousands of Hindus from Bangladesh have also been seeking to enter neighboring India.

The Hindu demonstrators’ rally at Shahbagh in the city’s center blocked traffic for more than three hours as they demanded, among other things, the creation of a minority protection law, special tribunals to expedite the trials of those who persecute minorities, and 10% of parliamentary seats for minorities.

They were joined by thousands of Muslim protestors, including students, who came to show support for the rights of minorities.A massive crowd gathered at the famous Cheragi Pahar Square in Chittagong.

Bangladesh’s Acting Chief Regarding Attacks Against Minorities

Muhammad Yunus, Bangladesh’s acting leader, denounced as “heinous” attacks on the country’s minority communities on Saturday.

The Nobel laureate Mr. Yunus also asked the students leading the protests to shield all Buddhist, Christian, and Hindu families from damage.
